Arrested at the Iowa State Fair? We Can Help.

There is a lot of crime that goes on during the Iowa State Fair each year, and many arrests are made to combat it. As a criminal defense law firm, we know that not all charges are fair, and it’s our goal to protect our clients’ rights during this time.

We most frequently assist clients who were charged with alcohol or marijuana-related offenses that allegedly occurred during the fair. Although results will vary depending on each individual’s legal situation, we have historically helped many people get their charges dropped after a discussion with the prosecutor. While the fair is open, the second most frequent type of case we handle is minor in possession of alcohol.

When it comes to marijuana-related charges, we typically get calls from many out-of-state visitors who didn’t realize marijuana is still illegal in Iowa or thought the police would have a relaxed attitude toward it.

Simply put, marijuana is illegal in Iowa, and it’s enforced at the Iowa State Fair. If you receive a possession of marijuana for the first time while you’re at the Iowa State Fair, we may be able to get you into a diversion program where the charge can be dismissed, but this is no guarantee; so, it’s extremely important you reach out to a criminal defense attorney as soon as you can after you are charged with it.

In addition to the crimes mentioned above, we also get our fair share of OWIs, assaults, and possessions of other illegal drugs. If you were here visiting from out-of-state and picked up a charge while attending the Iowa State Fair, do not hesitate to reach out to us and we’d be happy to answer any questions your may have and point you in the right direction.
